Red Mountain Renegades
Cowboy Action Shooting
The Red Mountain Renegades are the Cowboy Action Shooters members of Mission and District Rod and Gun Club (MDRGC), located in Mission, BC, Canada.
Experience the fun, excitement and traditions of our Old West history and lore. Cowboy Action Shooting is not only a sport that tests the shooters accuracy, but also brings back the days of the Old West in a veritable celebration of the cowboy lifestyle. Cowboy Action Shooting is a family sport enjoyed by girls and boys, women and men, aged 10 to 90. Above all, Cowboy Action shooters take safety very seriously and the many rules and regulations regarding handling of the firearms reflect this.
One of the unique aspects of Cowboy Action is costuming and adopting an alias. Each participant chooses a shooting alias appropriate to a character or profession of the late 19th century, a Hollywood western star, or an appropriate character from fiction. Costumes can be as little as a pair of jeans and a cowboy hat to full Southern Belle attire.
Cowboy Action Shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which participants use firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old-time shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, "Old West" style. It is a timed sport in which shooters compete on a course of different shooting stages/scenarios. Each scenario features an array of situations, many based on famous incidents or movie scenes, in which the shooters must test their mettle against steel targets.
As the game of Cowboy Action Shooting has evolved, our members have developed and adopted an attitude towards their participation called "The Spirit of the Game." It is a code by which we live. Competing in "The Spirit of the Game" means you fully participate in what the competition asks. You try your best to dress the part, use the appropriate competition tools, and respect the traditions of the Old West. Some folks would call it nothing more than good sportsmanship. We call it "Spirit of the Game."
Red Mountain Renegades host two disciplines; Cowboy Action and Wild Bunch.
Cowboy Action uses two holstered single action revolvers, a lever or pump action pistol caliber rifle and a double barrel, pump or lever action shotgun. Wild Bunch uses one 1911 pistol, a rifle that must be chambered in a pistol caliber of .40 or larger and an 1897 pump action shotgun.
Bullets used are pistol calibers which vary from .38 to .45. Regarding bullet weight, the majority are either 105 grain or 130 grain lead bullets, they must be flat pointed and not rounded. No jacketed rounds are allowed. (Young shooters may use .22LR caliber revolvers and rifles and a .410 shotgun)
Cowboy matches are scheduled for the first Sunday of every month (except on long weekends) and Wild Bunch matches are usually the third Sunday every month.
